Innovations & Society

research areas - Innovation & society

The convergence between the hard sciences and the social and economic sciences is reflected at ESIEE Paris by research activity in the management of innovation and the conduct of technological change.

It is characterized by a diversity of themes and disciplines which combine management sciences (finance, entrepreneurship, marketing, strategy, project management, etc.), economic and social sciences (industrial and innovation economics, international economics, space economy, etc.) and the management of new technologies (practices and knowledge of information sciences, material sciences and life sciences), including in cutting-edge sectors such as nanotechnology.

ESIEE Paris has been a founding member since April 2007 of the consortium “Institut Francilien Research, Innovation, Society” (IFRIS) which takes the form of a GIS (Scientific Interest Group). The members of the consortium are CNRS, INRA, UMLV, EHESS, ENPC, IEP, OST and ESIEE Paris. Associated with LISIS (FRE 3705), teacher-researchers from ESIEE Paris participate in the work of the TIO (Technology Innovation Organization) team. This activity is part of the extension of the European network of excellence "PRIME". It is at the heart of the participation of ESIEE Paris in IFRIS. This research team is interested in the dynamics of the production and capture of knowledge in the field of disruptive technologies.

Examples of research projects

RISIS: Research infrastructure for research and innovation policy studies

Objective: the RISIS project aims to build a data and services infrastructure supporting the development of a new generation of analyses and indicators. It should help develop a deeper understanding of the dynamics of policy-relevant knowledge and evidence. The project goes beyond traditional quantitative indicators, by developing positioning indicators, which take into account the essential characteristics of knowledge dynamics, i.e. the importance of asymmetries in producers, places and themes. RISIS datasets are built by maintaining information on these three dimensions. To exploit them, new services dealing with the identification of actors, geographic information and thematic axes are developed, as well as semantic analysis capacities.

Partners: Gustave Eiffel University, University of Manchester, University of Leiden, Polytechnic of Milan ...

Terco: Territory of knowledge

Objective: industrial innovation, which is considered to be a central driver of economic development in knowledge societies, is based, at least for its physical components (new products and processes), on the articulation of innovative concepts and new technological or scientific knowledge. The research project "Territories of knowledge" aims to analyse this dual source of knowledge mobilized in the creation of innovations by focusing on major players in the macro industrial sector of chemistry, pharmacy, and biotechnology is considered a sector intensely mobilizing research and having a historical tradition of cooperation with university research

ICRH: collaborative innovation and responsibility in the health sector

Objective: this project concerns an event (annual conference) which allows researchers and other actors of society to dialogue on the great challenges of humanity. The role of platforms to encourage collaboration between the different health actors, the link between social innovation and e-health, the representation of responsibility in the field of synthetic biology are some examples among others that were treated during of this edition. ESIEE Paris is a partner of each of the editions of this annual international workshop with guests from various backgrounds (academics from different disciplinary fields, innovation professionals, various institutions).
