Shanghai 2025 subject ranking: Université Gustave Eiffel holds its seat amongst the best Universities in the world
The University has excelled again, this year in 7 categories.
On 18th November 2025, Shanghai Ranking released its annual ranking of Universities by discipline (Global Ranking of Academic Subjects – GRAS).
Every year since 2003, the organisation has published a ranking of the world's top Universities. This year, out of over 2500 Universities considered,1000 have been included.
The table compares the research conducted by higher education institutions from around the world. 57 subjects are considered, this year including artificial intelligence and robotics for the first time. For the 4th consecutive year, Université Gustave Eiffel, of which ESIEE Paris is a founding member; stands out in the following areas:
Science and technology of transport Earth sciences Civil engineering Water resources Atmospheric sciencesEcology Mechanical engineering

What factors are used to determine the rankings?
The positioning is based on different criteria, used to measure academic performance and research, such as:
- Alumni and staff who have won Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals
- Commonly cited researchers
- Articles published in Nature and Science
- Articles indexed in the main citation indices
- The academic performance of the institution
