The start-up ICON Photonics stands out at the 2020 i-Lab competition

Congratulations to the start-up ICON Photonics for its received distinction at the 2020 i-Lab competition for the ILICO project whose research began in the ESIEE Paris laboratories.

ICON Photonics offers optical coupling technology fir fibre optic communications which optimized performances.

The business, founded in 2018, after more than 6 years of research on optical coupling which has led to revolutionary solutions, is managed by Carlos VIANA and Charles Goëller, and advised by Jean-Luc Polleux, International Director at ESIEE Paris and Researcher at the CNRS-ESYCOM laboratory.

The i-Lab Competition

Organised by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, in partnership with Bpifrance, the i-Lab competition aims to promote the creation and development of innovative companies.

This 2020 edition revealed 73 winners including 20 big prizes. Details of the 2020 promotion: a presence of women who represent 20% of the winners, a majority of projects resulting from public research (59%) and a predominance of the fields of health and digital technology (80%).

Over the years, i-Lab has affirmed its decisive role in supporting the creation of deeptech start-ups and, more broadly, confirms its major contribution to the French innovation system.

The prize-giving ceremony

The awards ceremony took place on November 9th at a distance due to current health risks.
