Biography:

Jean-Luc Polleux is Associate Professor at Université Gustave Eiffel - ESIEE Paris, researcher at the ESYCOM-CNRS lab, UMR-9007, and co-founder of ICON Photonics.

He received a Master degree / Diplôme d'ingénieur in microelectronic from ENSERB, Bordeaux, France, and the DEA degree in electronic and telecommunications from the University of Bordeaux 1, France, both in 1997. Jean-Luc Polleux received the Ph.D. degree in the opto-microwave field from CNAM, Paris, in 2001.

He then joined ESIEE Paris and the joint laboratory ESYCOM. His current research involves microwave-photonic devices and systems for short distances applications with special emphasis on microwave phototransistors (SiGe/Si and InGaAs/InP), Silicon-based integration and packaging, analogue VCSELs and opto-microwave devices modelling for Radio-over-Fiber applications and has recently been extended to the free-space and LiFi applications. JL.Polleux is the initiator of the first SiGe/Si phototransistors and their integration into a commercial circuit foundry and has pushed further the technology through device modeling, characterization, and their circuit integration since then. He published over 100 scientific publications and patents.

From 2012 to 2019 he was a member of the administration board of Optics'Valley, Ile-de-France region and since 2019 a member of the advisory committee of the Optics/photonics hub of the SYSTEMATIC cluster. He co-organized three international workshops, co-chaired the French National Microwave Conference, JNM, in 2013, and chaired in 2015 and 2019 and co-chaired from 2016 to 2018 the Career Platform of the European Microwave Week. He was a guest editor of the International Journal of Microwave and Wireless Technologies (IJMWT) in 2014. He was the coordinator of the DIAMON Institute from 2015 to 2017, a Paris Region Scientific Cluster for Research on Advanced Microwave, Optoelectronics and Nanometer-scale devices.

He led from 2010 an international track (master) of the Diplome d'Ingénieur of ESIEE Paris in Electronics. Since 2016, Jean-Luc Polleux is the Director of International Relations of ESIEE Paris. Since 2017, he is also co-founder and scientific director of the ICON Photonics start-up, spin-off of ESYCOM and ESIEE Paris, where he is acting as a scientific advisor as part of his research activities duties.
