------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scilab is a CACSD package developed at INRIA in the Meta2 project. Complete source and binaries for several popular Unix-X Window systems and Windows 95/98/NT are available. Scilab is free software. It can be used both in academia and in industry free of charge (see file notice.tex in the distribution). Scilab is a high-level language, primarily intended for numerical computations; it includes a number of toolboxes and on-line documentation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scilab 2.5 has been tested on Windows 95, 98 and NT. For the history feature (the creation of "scilab.hist" text file that contains the history of all user's commands), you may have to set the environment variable HOME. HOME is normally your home directory. If HOME does not exist, Scilab may issue an error message: you may ignore it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows specific files: there are two binary versions of Scilab in directory "distributions". Go to it and read the file "Readme_Windows.txt". ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Documents related to Scilab are also given. 1 - You have all the demos of Scilab in HTML format in directory "demos": use the file "demos.html". 2 - You have Scilab reference manual and the reference manuals of all the toolboxes in HTML, PDF and POSTSCRIPT format in directory "documentation". This newsgroup is a good place to exchange experience, ideas and Scilab programs. Of course it is also the right place to ask and answer questions about problems and suggestions. SciClub ------- To keep up with the latest developments in Scilab World, you can become a member of SciClub. By sending an e-mail to: Scilab@inria.fr with subject SciClub and content Your Email Address you become a member and receive latest news on Scilab (information on patchs, toolboxes, versions, contributions ...). Web server ---------- You can also surf into our Web server: http://www-rocq.inria.fr/scilab where your will find information and documentation about Scilab. A guided tour of Scilab functionalities can also be found there. Contributions ------------- If you have a contribution to Scilab which you like to share with the Scilab community, you can send us a description and its availability, we will put the information in a contrib file and announce it in SciClub and in newsgroup.
