With a central location on the campus of the Descartes Complex in the new city of Marne-la-Vallée, ESIEE Paris boasts an exceptional environment. This is the site of several other higher education institutions (École des Ponts ParisTech or ENPC, the French National School of Geographical Science or ENSG, the University of Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée, etc.), and research institutes and centres (the French Institute of Urbanism or IFU, the French Scientific and Technical Construction Centre or CSTB, etc.). Several of these establishments are members of the University of Paris-Est.
The University of Paris-Est is a research and higher education centre (French acronym: PRES), which was founded in the form of a public institute for scientific cooperation (French acronym: EPCS) by the Decree of 21 March 2007. This institution has been delegated responsibilities by its founders but is free to coordinate a forum for scientific cooperation, which is being structured.
ESIEE Paris is one of the five founding members of the University of Paris-Est, alongside École des Ponts ParisTech, the University of Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée, the University of Paris 12 Val-de-Marne, and the French Central Laboratory of Bridges and Highways or LCPC.
Université Paris-Est provides a natural framework for the development of academic research partnerships with ESIEE Paris, which has already joined forces with:
Two research laboratories:
Four scientific interest groups (SIG) involving the CNRS:
As an institution under the authority of Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ESIEE Paris accords particular importance to industrial partnerships and company services.
These partnerships take several concrete forms in research:
With companies, the development of partnership-based research draws on the integrated structures of which ESIEE Paris is part:
The Carnot VITRES institute
2007 was a year marked by the creation of the VITRES consortium (Innovation in Urbanism, Transport Infrastructures, Networks, the Environment and Services), which received the Carnot hallmark in March 2007.
Following a call for tender, which was launched by the French National Research Agency (ANR) in October 2006, thirteen groups from public research laboratories obtained the Carnot hallmark. The VITRES consortium, which had ESIEE Engineering join forces with the French Central Laboratory of Bridges and Highways (LCPC), the University Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée and École des Ponts ParisTech, was among the winners. The Carnot scheme is one aspect of the Pact for Research, which aims to encourage the transfer of technology, partnerships between public research laboratories and companies, and the development of innovation. Carnot-hallmarked structures, which are known as "Carnot institutes", receive a financial contribution from the ANR, which is based on the number of partnership research agreements.
