Mathematical morphology and image processing

Application to materials science

We contribute actively and significantly to the development of Mathematical Morphology.

This discipline was created by Georges Matheron and Jean Serra - emeritus professor in our laboratory. It is dedicated to the study of spatial structures and has applications mostly in image processing.

Our recent works are focused, in particular, to connective segmentation, optimisation in energetic lattices, mathematical morphology on graphs and simplicial and cubical complexes, and to the detection of thin objects, such as blood vessels in two-dimensional or three-dimensional medical images, of fibers in materials images.
