Doctoral schools

ESIEE Paris collaborates with the mathematics and ICST (MICST) doctoral school of the Université Paris-Est.

The MICST Doctoral School is the centre of mathematical, information and communication science research in the east Paris region.

The MICST Doctoral School in figures: 11 research units, 191 researchers, 161 PhD students, and 55 theses per annum.

The research themes: pure and applied mathematics; information science and technology; communication science and technology; and computer science.

ESIEE Paris has joint accreditation for two research master degrees from the University of Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée:

  • ELECTRONICS AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS, with the specialisation: High-frequency Communication Systems. Joint accreditation with the University of Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée, the CNAM and the INT.

  • COMPUTER SCIENCE, with the specialisation: Information Science. Joint accreditation with the University of Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée and École des Ponts ParisTech.

Testimony of John CHAUSSARD

John CHAUSSARD

PhD student and teaching assistant in the computer science department of ESIEE Paris

Thesis title: "Application of topology to material image analysis" - Government allowance

"During my fifth year of engineering studies at ESIEE Paris, I completed a research master's degree in Computer Science. Thanks to a government allowance, I've been able to continue to PhD level. "My thesis aims to create programs for analysing and simplifying 3D forms in order to extract interesting and reliable characteristics."

I'm currently studying metal foams, a material which is as solid as metal and much lighter.

As I want to work in an academic environment, I'm looking for a postdoctoral position in France or overseas.

The benefit of my background is having a twofold approach as an engineer and researcher, which gives me an insight into both the theoretical and practical aspects of a same problem."

Testimony of Vaclav VALENTA

Vaclav VALENTA

PhD candidate, co-supervised at the Brno University of Technology (Czech Republic) and the department of telecommunications at the ESIEE Paris.

Thesis title: "frequency synthesis for cognitive multi-radio"

"After my masters degree in Electrical Engineering and Radiocommunications from the Brno University of Technology, I decided to pursue a co-supervised doctoral degree at the ESIEE Paris.
This doctoral program allows me to strengthen relations between international academics and research institutes, and moreover to learn different approaches to teaching.  I am working on an international project, which gives me the opportunity to discover another culture and to learn another language.

I also believe that the double doctoral degree will offer more chances on the international job market. After my doctoral thesis, I want to continue my career in the field of radiocommunications."

Testimony of Kinda NACHEF

Kinda NACHEF

PhD student in the micro electronics department of ESIEE Paris

Thesis title: "microvalves and microinjectors for gas chromatography. Application to natural gas" - CIFRE thesis

"Alongside my third year at Ecole Centrale de Lille (ECL), I obtained a research master degree in Micro and Nanotechnologies from the University of Lille 1. With strong motivation and a wish to pursue research whilst maintaining a direct and unbroken link with the industrial world, I obtained a CIFRE grant in partnership with Schlumberger. The subject of my thesis is linked to micro gas chromatography, enabling qualitative and quantitative analysis of a gas sample. More specifically, I have focused my study on the microinjection part, making it possible to inject asample in a micro chromatography system.

After my PhD, I will continue working for Schlumberger. From my point of view, doing a CIFRE thesis when your aim is to work in applied research or R&D within a company, is a real advantage."

Testimony of Julien DENOULET

Julien DENOULET

Former PhD student in the Computer Science Department of ESIEE Paris and assistant professor at University Pierre and Marie Curie

Thesis title: "Massively parallel architecture of system-on-chips for video streaming" - Government allowance

"Following my engineering qualification from ESIEE, I completed a postgraduate degree (DEA) in Electronic Data Processing Systems at the University of Orsay. I then did a PhD, with a government allowance, at the University of Orsay and the Computer Science Department of ESIEE Engineering. I worked on a dedicated image processor. I'm currently assitant professor at UPMC. I'm working on the modelling of electronic systems with an "Electronic Systems" team in the LIP6 laboratory. With my background, I can conduct research at the crossroads of electronics and computer science."

Testimony of David MARCHALAND

David MARCHALAND

Former PhD student in the telecommunications department of ESIEE Paris. RF mixed-signal verification engineer

Thesis title: "Architectures and circuits dedicated to ultra wide band low data rate transmitters" - CIFRE thesis

"An ESIEE graduate, I completed a research master degree in High-frequency Communication Systems in the last year of engineering school. As I wanted to pursue research activity related to industrial issues, I obtained a PhD with a CIFRE grant at STMicroelectronics. I'm now an RF Mixed-Signal Verification Engineer for projects linked to 3G telephony. I become involved just before a circuit goes to be manufactured. I test the key points and perform simulations to check the functionality of the circuit. This is cross-functional activity that occurs at a specific stage in the life of a project. My background has taught me to be creative, proactive and independent. Being both an engineer and doctor has been a real advantage when finding and starting work."
