Life sciences constitute a field with the specific characteristics of its raw material: the living organism or the reaction produced by an organism.

Life sciences and biotechnologies do not make up a single industrial sector. They should rather be seen as a fund of knowledge, tools and techniques which can be applied to several sectors, notably pharmaceuticals, agribusiness, chemicals and environmental protection.

The sectors associated with life sciences require new professions, at the interface between research, industrialisation and commercialisation.

This is the question addressed by the ESIEE MANAGEMENT biotechnology programme, which is defined by the key word 'integration':

  • within scientific disciplines themselves, by coupling, for example, molecular and cellular biology, immunology and optics, biology and computer science...
  • integration of science and management, to take in all the components - strategic marketing, project organisation, financing, return on investment - of developing new products or processes

In addition to the management options - financing of innovation, marketing of innovation, intercultural management - the programme offers two options from the second year:

  • one centred mainly on the conception of new products and the use of new findings in biology, especially in the genome and post-genome fields, with special emphasis on bioinformatics
  • a second option covering the necessary methods and actions for launching a new product related to quality of life, with special emphasis on biostatistics, conception of experimental design and clinical research

Of the company assignments undertaken by ESIEE MANAGEMENT graduates, 49% are both managerial and technical in nature. Another 34% are strictly managerial, while 17% are purely technical.

78% of graduates found employment within 6 months of finishing their studies.
